Photos for Jake's Phone Background

These three photos I got Nick and Jodie to take on my phone, which is the phone Nick is going to be using during the film.

I then got everyone to choose the best photo and we then put that as the background. We all decided on the one that looked most like they were a couple.

I got Nick to take photos of himself and I also took a photo of Nick and Jodie looking like they're going to a wedding or a formal do together.

 I chose for Jake to have 5 profile pictures to make the profile look believable. During the filming, I made sure that it wasn't shown that the profile had no friends or any posts, because that would make it look more unbelievable.

Organisation of Actors and Actresses

I set up a group on Facebook and included Willow, Nick and Jodie. I did this so that I could easily get in touch will all three of them at once and they could all see every conversation that goes on about my film.


 It is also an easy way for them to get in touch with me if they have any questions and the others can see the answers to the questions. This will mean I won't get asked the same questions by three different people.

I also have had conversations with Nick, Jodie and Willow about dates they can do and can't do, about what they need to wear and how they will be getting to the locations.

I put a post on the Facebook group to tell everyone what they need to bring on the days we are filming. Then people could ask questions and talk amongst themselves and everyone else can see as well.

Initial Ideas

1. Dark Corner Productions

This institution logo would fit well with the film noir genre because it has the common convention of smoke. I liked the idea of having Smoke in my logo, but I thought on its own it looked quite boring, so I decided that I would rethink what would go with the idea of smoke. This lead me to my final idea which is shown below.





2. Shadow Productions

This logo has a traditional film noir location and convention of low key lighting, which creates shadows.

 I decided not to use this name for my institution because it would give the audience the link with horror movies rather than film noir.

I liked the idea of having a shadow in the logo because it is a convention of film noir, so it would link with the genre of my film. However, I liked the idea of smoke more.







3. Scarlet Street Productions

This is the picture that I decided to merge with the smoke picture. I decided that I didn't want to use Scarlet Street productions as the name for my institution because it thought that Dark Corner Productions sounded more official and linked in with my film more. I didn't know how I would do an animation at the beginning of my film with just a street either, which is when I thought about merging the smoke with this picture.



4. Whirlpool Productions

I liked the idea of this logo because I could have done an animation of the whirlpool spinning around the institution title.

However, I didn't really like the name of the institution because it had no links with my film and it didn't sound as interesting as the other ideas.

I thought that the other institution names had more links with my film because they had conventions of film noir within.

The Making of my Final Institution

This is a video of how I made my institution. 

Final Institution

I decided to merge the smoke with the street because then my institution had a connection to the film noir genre.  I also thought that this would allow me to create an interesting animation for my institution that would appear at the start of my film.

Possible Animations

This animation is slightly faster, which makes the smoke look more realistic. I like this more than the one below because it looks more official and complete.

This animation is slightly slower. The smoke doesn't look as realistic because the frames are slightly slower, which makes it jumpier. This one I won't use because it doesn't look complete and it looks more amateur.

This was going to be my final animation, but when I showed it to people for advice, they all brought up the idea of having the title also fading in, instead of it suddenly coming in at the end. I decided that I liked the idea of that, so I tried it out and then decided I preferred it to the one above.

Final Animation

I did this by taking each picture of the opacity scale and putting them in a movie at 0.10 seconds each frame. I then put the last frame with a 0.25 seconds so that it was a bit longer. I like this one better because it looks like the smoke and the institution name is fading in, which is what I wanted.

Emily:             (Man grabs her from behind) *gasps* get off me

(Man puts his hand over her mouth)

                        *Muffled speech*

Scene 2

Jake:               (Voiceover while he’s looking at pictures of him and Emily) It’s been two days now since Emily disappeared (pause) Her mum said she went out with friends and never came home (pause) I’ve tried calling her but there’s no answer (pause) it just goes straight to answer phone (pause) I just want to know she’s alright and safe (pause) she use to talk about running away when we first got together (pause) she had depression but I helped her and I thought she was alright now (pause) she said she was alright (pause) her family thought it would be a good idea if I set up a page for her disappearance (hear the email sound)

Amber:          (Email appears – he clicks on it) (voiceover of Amber’s voice) Hi Jake… my name is Amber Snow (pause) I’ve seen your page on the disappearance of your girlfriend, Emily Clarke, and I want to help you (pause) I’m studying at university in the hope to become a detective (pause) I feel this would benefit me and you if I were to help out (pause) my number is 07182389562 if you want to call me to arrange a meeting (pause) understand if you don’t want any help (pause) but I’m here if you need any assistance (pause) Amber Snow

Jake:               (picks up phone and types number) Hi (clears throat) it’s Jake Carter; I’ve just got your message about helping me find Emily (pause) I was um wondering if you wanted to meet tomorrow? (pause) great I’ll see you then

Scene 3

Jake:               Amber? Amber Snow?

Amber:          (looks and smiles) Hi

Jake:               (sits down) Hi, I hope you haven’t been waiting long?

Amber:          No not at all (pause) thanks for agreeing to meet with me (pause)

Jake:               (smiles and nods)

Amber:          Why don’t you start by explaining what happened

Jake:               (Voiceover while they look like they’re talking) so I started to explain to her what had happened (pause) she was really easy to talk to (pause) we were talking for hours all about it (pause) I think she can help me find Emily

                        We’ve been meeting up a lot since (pause) the second time wasn’t planned, I was walking home from work and we bumped into each other (pause) we stopped and chatted for a while and planned to meet up again the following day (pause) I told her that she could come to mine so we could check the page regularly and use my computer and phone (pause) I was looking forward to spending more time with her (pause) I feel really comfortable around her already like I’ve known her for ages

                        She came round the next day and we spent hours calling people who know Emily (pause) I called Emily’s friends (pause) they said that some girl had come over to Emily and said something and she got annoyed (pause) and because of that she didn’t want to get in the taxi with the others (pause) she wanted to walk home on her own (pause) but the strange thing is that no one knows who that girl was (pause) they said she had blonde hair but that’s all they saw of her (pause) not that that narrows it down, a lot of girls have blonde hair

                        Amber said I could come round the next day and we could try and find the girl (pause) I arrived her house and she said that we would go to her room because her roommate doesn’t like meeting people (pause) we just sat on her bed and searched the internet (pause) but we didn’t have much luck because Emily’s friends’ didn’t know much about the girl (pause) me and Amber have gotten a lot closer too (pause) when I’m with her, the pain of Emily disappears for a while (pause) she’s so supportive I don’t think I could have done this without her

Amber:          Let me know if you find anything?

Jake:               I will, see you soon (walks out door)

Amber:          Bye (closes door turns around and smiles then walks to the other room)

Scene 4

Man:              (voiceover) Jake (pause) my name isn’t important, but I can’t sit quiet any longer (pause) it’s about you’re girlfriend’s disappearance (pause shot goes to FF at the kidnap) Amber Snow is not to be trusted (pause) with my assistance she kidnapped you’re girlfriend on the 28^th of February (pause) she said to me that she had to get rid of Emily in order to be with you and if I didn’t help her do it she’d get rid of my wife too (pause) Amber and I used to be friends at school and in sixth form (shot goes to Amber in her room) she found your Facebook profile on her mutual friends list (pause) soon after that she started following your twitter account and finding out everything about you (pause) once she found out you had a girlfriend she got really mad and started thinking up a plan of how to break you two up (pause) she found out through Emily’s friend’s twitter that they were planning on going out for her 19^th and went to find Emily there (pause) I drove her to the nightclub and she tried to get Emily to break up with you (pause)  she told her lies and Emily got really annoyed at her and left (pause) but Amber couldn’t stop there and she made me go with her to follow Emily and kidnap her (pause) (shot goes to Jake) I wish I could tell you where Amber is keeping Emily but she won’t tell me (pause) I’m sorry Jake I really am

                        (Jake closes laptop)

Scene 5

Jake:               (picks up phone and dials Amber)

Amber:          Hi Jake, what’s up?

Jake:               Hi, can you meet me in ten?

Amber:          Um sure, why?

Jake:               I’ve found something (hangs up)

Amber:          (walks to Jake who’s sitting on the bench) Hi Jake, what did you find?

Jake:               I know Amber; you can’t lie to me anymore

Amber:          I don’t know what you mean?

Jake:               I know you kidnapped Emily

Amber:          What?

Jake:               *interrupts her with a raised voice* don’t try and lie to me Amber

Amber:          (tries to grab Jake’s hand but he pulls away) I was only doing it for us, I knew once you’d met me you would love me and it’s true you do, you can’t lie and say you don’t

Jake:               Where is she Amber?

Amber:          *distressed* No.. (shakes head) Jake I won’t tell you.. you don’t need her you have me, I will love you more than she ever will

Jake:               (takes Amber’s hand) *gentle voice* listen to me Amber I won’t leave you, I promise (pause) you’re right you love me more than Emily, just tell me where she is

Amber:          she’s um she’s in my basement *looks down sad*

Jake:               right (drops Amber’s hand) I can’t do this (shakes head and runs off)

Amber:          *distressed and shouting through tears* Jake you promised (pause) Jake come back please (pause) Jake I love you (runs after him)

Scene 6

Jake:               Emily? Emily are you in here?

Emily:             *muffled noises*

Jake:               Emily?

Amber:          (walks into light) Jake

Jake:               Amber? What are you doing here?

Amber:          I can’t let you throw away what we have Jake, we have something special

Jake:               Amber we don’t have anything special, we aren’t together, I’m with Emily, I love Emily, and you have to understand that

Amber:          If I can’t have you Jake, no-one can (walks out of light)

Jake:               Amber? Amber don’t (looks around worried - picks up weapon)

                        *hits who he thinks is Amber*

Emily:             *screams*

Amber:          Jake? I think she’s dead

Jake:               *drops the weapon and falls to his knees*

Possible Name Ideas and Font Ideas

The Name I am going to use is "The Other Girl". I think that this title fits in well with my story line as Amber is Jake's other girl. It also adds a bit of mystery into it - who is the other girl?

Font Ideas

This font is Harrington.
I like this font because its elegant and sophisticated, which would match with my Femme Fatale, who is the other girl.
However, I don't think that this font would match in with the film noir genre as much because it looks more like a font you would associate with a fairy tale.

This font is Copperplate Gothic Light.
I like this font because it is bold and easily readable.
It looks like it would fit in better with the film noir genre than Harrington.
This font looks like a font that could be used in social networking sites too, which means that it would have a link to my film.
I might use this font as my final font, however other fonts I look at might fit in better with my film.

This font is Chalkduster.
I like this font because it's interesting and different.
However, I don't like that this font would go to well for a film noir as it is more of a horror styled font.
I used this font in my horror opening last year, so I don't think that I'm going to use it in my film noir.

This font is Noteworthy Light.
I like this font because it is clear and easy to read.
It looks like handwriting, which could link in with my film because the femme fatale could have written it.
I could use this font, however I don't know if it would suit my film as much as other fonts would.

This font is HanziPen TC Regular.
I like this font because it is again easy to read and it looks like somebody has written it out.
I might use this font because it doesn't look as daunting as Copperplate Gothic Light does, so it would look less like a horror film would.

Final Font

The font I choose for the title of my film was Copperplate Gothic Light.  

I chose this font because I feel that it will fit best with my film. It has connotations of a font off of a website, which links to my film because a big part of it is based on social networking sites. 

The font is bold and easy to read, and unlike some of the other fonts that I thought of using, this font isn't girly and petite.

Character Costumes and Props

Props

The laptop that will be used is a red laptop that will belong to Willow. The colour of the laptop will represent the Femme Fatale. It will also represent the risk that he is taking working with Willow's character because the colour represents danger.

I will also use a mirror in the scene that someone emails Nick's Character to confess everything that happened. The mirror will be used to show Willow's character sitting on her bed looking at her laptop, as shown by the laptop being in the mirror in the photo.

This will be the object that Nick's character grabs to hit Willow's character over the head with but ends up hitting Jodie's character instead. I had to think of something that could be in someone's basement in order for him to grab and swing in a moment of worry, that I also had in my garage so that I could use it. If this is dropped it will also make a sound on the floor, which I need when he realises that he has killed is girlfriend instead of hurting Willow.

These are to two phones that will be used. The white iPhone will be by Nick's character and the Samsung will be used by Willow. Willow's phone is black which represents her villainous side and Nick's white phone represents his innocence.
